Vancouver neighborhoods we serve

We move homes, small loads and bulky items across these Vancouver neighborhoods. Here is what changes on moving day in each, from stairs and elevators to parking.

Kitsilano

Character houses split into suites, with basement units and narrow interior stairs. Back lanes are often the easiest place to load.

Yaletown

Concrete towers with loading bays and strict move windows. Book the service elevator early, especially at month-end.

Mount Pleasant

Older walk-ups beside newer condos along Main Street and Kingsway; check building type at both ends, because the stair count drives the price.

West End

A dense mix of older low-rise walk-ups and towers. Walk-ups often mean two or three flights of stairs, and street parking is the tightest in the city, so a street occupancy permit is worth it.

Gastown

Heritage buildings, narrow streets and cobblestones on parts of Water Street. Loading takes more planning than in newer areas.

Moving in Vancouver: what to know before you book

A local move in Vancouver is shaped less by distance than by access: whether the truck can park legally near your door, whether your strata building needs an elevator booking, and how many stairs sit between the unit and the street. Plan those three things first and the move itself is usually a few hours.

Parking the truck: temporary street occupancy permits

On metered or time-limited streets, the City of Vancouver issues temporary street occupancy permits that reserve curb space for a moving truck. The City posts no-parking signs ahead of your date, so apply early: processing takes 7 to 10 business days after payment.

A permit cannot be used to move a car that was legally parked before the signs went up, and it is not issued for crew parking. In the West End and Kitsilano, where curb space is scarce, a reserved spot can save an hour of carrying from around the corner.

Strata buildings and elevator bookings

Most Vancouver condo towers require you to book the service elevator and a move window with the strata or building manager, and many charge a move-in or move-out fee. Under BC strata rules those fees must be set out in a bylaw or rule and be reasonable; the Civil Resolution Tribunal has reduced fees it found excessive.

  • Book the elevator for both buildings before you book movers, then pick a move time inside both windows.
  • Ask whether the building needs elevator pads installed and which entrance or loading bay to use.
  • Tell Tingsapp about stairs or an elevator at each end; it is part of your fixed price.

Timing a Vancouver move

Most residential leases in Vancouver turn over at month-end, so the last two days of the month and the first of the next book up first. Mid-month and midweek dates give you the widest choice of times.

From October to April, plan for rain: keep a path of cardboard or mats at each door, and wrap mattresses and upholstered furniture. Moves that cross to the North Shore on the Lions Gate or Ironworkers Memorial bridges go faster outside rush hour.
